Some of the best finance writing today comes from writers who are not household names. They file fast, check their numbers, and explain money to readers who need it explained.

In 2024, finance writer Damilola Esebame published a guide to becoming a freelance finance content writer that included a short list of finance writers to follow. I was on it. This is an updated version for 2026, with more writers, their current beats and links to recent work so you can read them yourself.

The list is alphabetical by last name. It is not a ranking. Every author page and article linked here was checked in October 2026.

Portraits are illustrated caricatures based on each writer's published author photo.

How to use this list

If you are an editor or a content lead, the author pages above are the quickest way to judge whether a writer fits your beat. Read two or three recent pieces and check the sourcing.

If you are a writer starting out, read these writers the way you would study any craft. Notice how they open a story, how they attribute numbers and how they explain a rule in one sentence. My guide to becoming a freelance finance writer covers the rest.
